British soldiers dug in defending the Bergues - Furnes Canal
Early in the story Tiger is befriended by Private Robbie Hunter who is a soldier in 7 Platoon. His best mate goes by the nickname of Wingnut and their section commander is Corporal Brady.
Extract from Chapter 1
He heard a faint
'silent' whistle from Corporal Brady and assumed that he was trying to attract Wingnut's attention although he could not see anything from where he was. He then saw Riley kneel down and face his arc to the left. Robbie turned to face to the rear
and knelt down. It was then that he thought he saw some movement in the darkness on the track behind them. Possibly a small animal; possibly Tiger. He felt a tap on his shoulder so he turned his head and saw Riley indicating with his hand
that they were moving again.
